I don’t think I posted this on the blog, even though it’s been over a year I think… Anyways, PLORK hosted a competition with the theme “plorkifornia”. I entered with two different designs, where one of them ended up winning. I also designed the backdrop for their cyan chino.
Illustrations, illustrations, illustrations… If you like illustrations and illustrators I’ve got three tips for you where you can find more great things to look at. Enjoy!
ps. If you know any websites that you think are good and in the same category as the ones listed above, please leave a comment and let me know. Thanks!
A lot of you guys has been asking how I make my illustrations, and I KNOW I kind of never write this out. It really varies a lot, but about 70% of the times I first draw by hand, put it in the scanner and then finalize it in illustrator or photoshop (or both). This little birdie is made with Muji’s black gel ink pens and Stabilo coloured fineliners. I then scanned it to my computer and added the background in photoshop.
So, yesterday while I was sitting in the park, getting some tan going, I was drawing this very simple illustration of a girl and the words “I love Summer”. Because I do! I scanned the illustration and started working on it in illustrator. As I was trying out different colour palettes I had a hard time choosing which one I liked best, so I thought: why not show you all of the colour ways and how you can get different expressions from different colours.
This is what I started with, just solid black and white, simple illustration.
This was the colours I first had in mind, I wanted to make her a blondie… But I never stop at the first option, cause choosing the colour palette is my favorite part… This blue version also turned out to be the coolest summer image.
Reds are hotter!
These are the ones I that turned out the best. Which one do you like best? Keep looking below for a breakdown of the colour palettes.
ps. It’s really freakin’ annoying that there are TWO ways to spell color/colour, haha. By the way, to the new people in here (looks like Pinterest is the way you found me) I just want to say welcome!
Sorry for keeping you guys waiting, I’ve been running low on inspiration and not feeling like myself for a couple of days.. Anyways, here it is, hope you like it.

Here it is! I didn’t realize it was June already, May went by so fast and I’ve been busy moving these last couple of days. Perhaps I’ll show you what it looks like when I’m all settled.
